In the art of Eszter Metzing (1992), psychological and anthropological observations are interwoven with a material research work that starts from the study of the interactions between man and matter.
In her creative work, she engages in an organic dialogue with matter, using heterogeneous materials to explore the possibilities of a transcendent experience of an all-embracing substance. She relates to working with textiles as an intuitive way of working, influenced by the legacy of her grandmothers as seamstresses, to which she relates as a vehicle for the stories of generations embedded in the threads of fabric, and as a metaphorical, representational projection of psychological and bodily processes. By exploring the transformative layers of the co-existence of vision and the haptic senses, she seeks to reveal how visual art can contribute to the discourse of the collective unconscious through the channels of perception.
Through her personal approaches, she explores the multiple phenomena of constant transformation, vulnerability, the inescapable experience of passing, and memory, which define our identity, our world, our relationship to our environment and society. She is committed to innovation by seeking opportunities through newer media, and attempts to provide a more dynamic and multifaceted representation through the creation of multimedia installations and interactive art form systems, deepening understanding through audience engagement, thus seeing visual expression as an important form of profound communication.
