Robin Michel (*1988) earned his Bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Art in Basel under the direction of Chus Martinez, followed by both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the Basel Music Academy’s Electronic Studio, studying with Volker Böhm. In 2022, he was awarded the Eduard Brunner Prize for Composition.

Laura Mietrup (*1987) completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the Institute of Art in Basel, also under Chus Martinez, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Bern University of the Arts. She has received the Aargau Board of Culture’s Work Prize twice, in 2019 and 2023, as well as the 2023 Work Prize from Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt. Her works are held in both public and private collections.

Mietrup and Michel first began collaborating during their Bachelor studies at the Institute of Art in Basel, producing installation works both as a duo and within larger collectives.

Following graduation, each pursued their own artistic practice over several years. Mietrup focused on expansive installations and sculpture, while Michel concentrated on sound-based works, instrument design, and audiovisual performance. Throughout this period, they regularly supported each other’s projects, Mietrup designed intricate silhouette-cut costumes for Michel’s composition Fluchtpunkt, and Michel contributed compositions to Mietrup’s solo exhibitions Blurred at Kunsthalle Arbon and at the Zimmermannhaus Brugg.

Their first dedicated duo exhibition, Basement Hum, presented at Ausstellungsraum Klingental in Basel, brought their respective artistic interests together in a single immersive installation. The project also featured two newly developed sound performances.

As a collaborative pair, Mietrup and Michel merge their distinct skills to create interdisciplinary works at the intersection of visual, auditory, and performative art. Their residency is supported by the Landis & Gyr Foundation.
