Join us for a special event born from an equally special collaboration!
On November 2, in celebration of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), Mexican artist Irasema Fernández, currently in residence at aqb, joins Hungarian chef Tamás Fejszák for a shared dinner at Hági House. At the heart of the evening are chili and paprika, and the journeys, cultures, and stories they carry with them.
For the occasion, Fernández will create an altar in memory of those who have migrated and searched for a home elsewhere, carrying their cultures, memories, flavours, and recipes along the way.
It all begins with the chili. Native to the Americas, it travelled across continents and found its way into kitchens around the world. Passing through Ottoman kitchens, it eventually took root in Hungarian cuisine, where it became paprika.
Two soups will trace this journey: tortilla soup from Mexico and Hungarian goulash.
The altar honours the people behind these journeys, those who moved from one place to another, bringing with them memories, customs, flavours, and fragments of home.
Some chose to leave, others had no choice. Some found a new home, and some never did.
