Lucy Irvine

Lucy Irvine

Year of stay:2026

Lucy is a Scottish artist, researcher and educator based in Australia. She handweaves volatile urban-scaled forms from utilitarian materials, transforming the everyday and the overlooked into lively spatial provocations. Her temporary and permanent sculptural works physically investigate urban spaces and become an emergent realisation of complex systems. In addition to woven sculpture, Lucy’s practice encompasses community engagement and experimental pedagogy to co-generate embodied materials-led knowledge.
Lucy is represented in the collection of the Central Museum of Textiles, Łódź, Poland, the Australian National Textile Collection held at Tamworth Regional Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. She has made permanent public artwork for city sites in Melbourne and Sydney and temporary works across Canberra. Group exhibitions include Materiality...but not as we know it Canberra Museum & Gallery 2024, the Tamworth Textile Triennial in 2023 and 2011 and a solo commission for Dark Mofo, Hobart in 2016. Lucy is currently Head of Textiles at the Australian National University and has repeatedly run education programs for the National Gallery of Australia and Heide Museum of Modern Art.
