Dominika Dobiášová (*1996) is a painter whose work combines Neo-Romantic stylization, intricate compositions and a thoughtful approach to light. Her pre-Raphaelite and surrealistic figures appear in unsettling, dreamlike scenes that often explore the psychological, social and political dimensions of human experience, bringing together beauty, grotesqueness, intimacy, vulnerability and power. Drawing on historical, biblical and art-historical references, she questions established hierarchies, gender roles and the structures of power shaping individual and collective identities and contradictions between utopia, reality and the subconscious. She complements her canvases with original wooden frames and her installations are often accompanied by glass-metal objects and hand-crafted pedestals. Dobiášová graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, the Drawing Studio of Josef Daňek and Libor Novotný, and from the Brno University Faculty of Fine Arts, the Painting Studio of Vasil Artamonov and Maria Štindlová, with a semester in Vienna in the studio of Ernst Yohji Jaeger. In 2024, she participated in a residency at the A.R.C. in Bucharest. Her solo exhibitions include Prolog, Gallery Art (Kino Art), Brno (2026); Wry Sky, Berlínskej model, Prague (2025); Wish to Live Well, Commune Gallery, Vienna (2025); What Hangs in the Palm of Our Hands, Hunt Kastner, Prague (2024); Reap The Sown, Eastcontemporary, Milan (2023); Sanctuary for Each of Them, TIC Gallery, Brno (2022).
