Álvaro Icaza (Perú, 1982) started studying painting at the Universidad Católica del Perú in 2001. He continued his studies at the University of Barcelona, dedicating himself especially to drawing and digital media. In this city, Álvaro’s projects were selected for Injuve 2009, Sala d’Art Jove 2010 Barcelona and Mónica al Carrer 2010, among others. In 2010, he was part of the Artist in Residency selection of the Can Xalant Creative Centre of Visual Arts and Contemporary Thinking. In 2011, he
concluded the Modern Grammars Postgraduate Course (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona).

In 2012, Álvaro returned to Lima and self-published an art book - “Cubrir una cosa con otra” (To cover one thing with another) – and also presented “Explorando el espacio vacío intermedio”, an exhibition that gathers his collaboration with Verónica Luyo during their residence in Spain. In 2013, he was part of “Recent paths in art theory and practice” seminar, run by Max Hernández. His work has recently been shown at the New Digital Media Biennale in Sao Paulo, and the II Photographie Biennale in Lima. During 2014 he won the third prize of the National Visual Arts Grant, which is promoted by the French Embassy in Lima. Recently Álvaro won an honorable mention at Experimental short film category in the National Film Contest (DAFO).
