Karolina Grzywnowicz is a visual artist with an interdisciplinary approach. Her works often deal with plants in social and political contexts, often of a violent nature. Her methodology involves a combination of theoretical research and practical action and includes collaboration with specialists across various disciplines e.g. botanists, soil researchers, hydrologists and local people to allow for a space of interaction and exchange of knowledge, with a focus on developing new alleys for storytelling that are more inclusive, intersectional and community-oriented. Currently, she is working on a project about the politics of planting, plants used to camouflage violence and exploring scent as a tool of micro resistance and healing.
She works in various media: installation, sculpture, and video; she creates situations and art interventions. Her works have been exhibited at: Akademie der Künste der Welt (Cologne, DE), Hellerau - Europäisches Zentrum der Künste (Dresden, DE), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (PL), Zachęta National Gallery of Art (Warsaw, PL), Onomatopee Projects (Eindhoven, NL) and at the Unsound festival (Krakow, PL). She is a former fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (2018), artist-in-residence at the Ujazdowski CCA in Warsaw (2019, 2020, 2021), Mamarat in Ramallah, Palestine (2019), French Institute of Pondicherry, India (2024), CEC Artslink International Fellowship in Chicago and New York, USA (2024).
