What happens when the act of selection and the curatorial tasks are carried out by the artists themselves over each other’s work?

The premise of this year’s community exhibition stems from a studio experience: a work by Gábor Kristóf was placed in a new light for the artist himself by an observation made by Tamás Melkovics during a studio visit. Building on this reflexive dynamic, the aqb community has based this year’s group exhibition on professional trust. Participants invited one another into their creative spaces to highlight a specific work from each other’s practice through the act of selection.

Elective Affinities is organized around subjective connections and dialogue. During the process, not only were existing works placed into new contexts, but in several cases, the intensity of these encounters inspired collaborations created specifically for this occasion. For one month, aqb Project Space transforms into a living network where works do not merely exist side by side but appear as reflections of one another.
