We have grown accustomed to autumn marking the true beginning of the year – a season for contemplation, when it is opportune to shift our perspective. This year, aqb's second Open House festival has chosen micro as its keyword: it focuses on the meticulousness of attention, the power of detail and the nuances of the big picture. It is from this (micro)perspective that the whole house becomes abstract, these micro-movements that we owe to art. The open studios will introduce seasoned and fresh faces of the aqb community, as well as our guest artists and participants in our Artist-in-Residence programme.
As the opening event of the micro-festival on Friday, a new exhibition with Károly Klimó titled Memorable Fancy, in the spirit of reinterpreting visionary abstraction, will be presented in Project Space. On this evening, one of the tunnel of the Mine will also open, offering an insight into the world of strange mini-worlds and peculiar microclimates, while at the same time, in our 4D space, Monochrome Clack, Éva Köves and Andrea Sztojánovits will launch their audiovisual painting installation 'Solar Vibrations'. Our opening night will then lead us into the microcosm, where Magical deer and the gravity shepherds reside. And in the temporary gallery space in the main building, Miniatures by József Nagy (Josef Nadj) will be on display throughout the weekend. And on Saturday, walks between the studios and our community spaces will be made memorable with performative art demonstrations, workshops, a market, as well as a music programme. The works in the exhibition showcase some of the intersections between abstraction and illustration, dealing with the transparent and opaque side of visuality and the relationship between literary reference and autonomous text illustration, and aqb Project Space is shared by six artists. The title of the group exhibition "Memorable Fancy" (which can be seen as a continuation of the exhibition "Stirrings Still" from four years ago) paraphrases the subtitle of William Blake's famous prophecy "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell", which repeatedly appears, interrupting the prose verse and forcing the reader to change dimensions. The evocative adjective offers something constant, stable, in contrast to the volatility of the illusion. In addition to a brand new Borges-inspired installation, the exhibition presents Károly Klimó's famous Artaud series „Avec moi dieu-le-chien”, a selection of miniatures and drawings by József Nagy, juxtaposing Gábor Koós' traces inspired by light and shadow, Tamás Melkovics' drawing in preparation for his modular sculptural works, and Christa Bartesch's performative drawings, as well as paintings by Luca Korodi. The exhibition space is at once visionary and concrete, bringing with it something of the unfinished and dynamic nature of the studios, and the exhibition will be on show at the start of the Open House Festival, alongside other programmes throughout the weekend and for a little under two months afterwards. The exhibition will be accompanied by a literary and film programme, screenings, talks, drawing workshops.

INTRODUCTION INTO MODULAR SYNTHESIS THROUGH VCV RACK WITH YINNA

This three hour long workshop aims to give participants a thorough insight into the modular synthesis through VCV Rack. VCV Rack is a free software that is a very well made virtual version of the well-known and popular modular format Eurorack and as such, it has incredible flexibility. One of its many advantages is that it has a crazy number of excellent modules (a lot of which are software versions of physical modules). This workshop is recommended for those who would like to understand modular synthesis in depth and who would like to find much more space for experimenting than is possible with more traditional electronic instruments/DAWs. Bringing your own laptop is not a must, but recommended.
The workshop will be held by Nikolett Kardos (Yinna).

Expect insane DJ sets from SUTA, asvanyviz2, poppyseed, DJ Ghluin, DJ Kard, and Személyi Számító, live performances from elodelodelod and granato + dominimal + csabberkick, and the premiere of Ecovoron.
In the morning we’ll migrate to the Courtyard where our fam and local legends Badaro and DJ 0 will help us come down in the best way possible: namely, grooving under the trees with smoothies and cocktails from Jungle.
