Lili Agg, b. 1991, is a visual artist living in Budapest and co-founder of the MŰTŐ artist-run gallery and collective. She studied aesthetics and art history at ELTE and graduated as a painter in 2018 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts where she is currently a PhD candidate. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Belgrade, Bratislava, Los Angeles, Cluj-Napoca and Budapest. As a member of the MŰTŐ collective, she has exhibited at the Budapest Gallery and the Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna. In 2022, she won the grant of the Ludwig Foundation Aachen, which led to a one-month residency in New York. In 2023, she was nominated for the Strabag Art Award, and in 2025, she was a resident artist in Krems an der Donau. She recently won the Herzeg Klára Award and the Barcsay Award. Lelet T-6391/3 in Torula was her most extensive solo presentation in Hungary.
Her doctoral research rethinks utopia through contemporary theories to explore sustainable culture and the role of art in shaping future imaginaries. Using speculative “future archaeology,” she examines how present cultural objects become part of future archives, where destruction signifies renewal: the dismantling of ossified, authoritarian, and self-exploitative systems to enable rebuilding. She conceives her installations as models of theories by the integration of painting and new media, probing the boundaries between image, object, reality, and the digital. Besides her artwork focused practice, she also investigates art’s potential as a community-building entity driven by collective thinking and making.
