Hanna Råst is a Helsinki-based visual artist who works with lens-based media, text, and sculpture. Her work delves into themes of memory, time, archives, and loss, often intersecting with research areas such as archaeology, psychology, and ecology. Råst often begins her creative process by engaging with archival materials such as photographs, documents, historical sites, narratives, and found objects to scrutinize how we interpret the past, present and future. Furthermore, in her practice, she is interested in how memories are layered, lost or transformed over time, and how the traces of the past, whether personal or collective, can be reinterpreted or made visible through archival materials. In this sense, her work functions like archaeology, unearthing hidden layers of meaning and challenging the viewer’s perception of time, presence, and disappearance.
Råst graduated as a master of arts 2011 from Aalto University and has exhibited internationally since then. Her works are part of private and public collections, such as HAM Helsinki Art Museum and Finnish State Art Deposit Collection. Her residency period in AQB is supported by FinnAgora.
